Get ready for the exciting follow up to Atlantis Rising, dubbedAn enchanting debut from a promising new author of paranormal YAby Kirkus Reviews.

After all they’d cost me, I thought I was done with the Truss clan. I was wrong. Nikki Dawning, my mortal enemy, has beenkidnapped, and I’ve been asked to spy on the Truss to find her. The pull between Ian and I has never been stronger, but he can’t help me this time. I have to rely on Theron, a bad-tempered cousin I didn’t know I had. To make matters worse, the people I trust have been keeping secrets.

I’m starting to feel like a weapon in a war I don’t understand. How far am I willing to go to protect the descendants of Atlantis and the common good when I’m not sure what the common good is anymore?

Only one thing is certain. If I’m the next Laurel clan chief, I can’t let myself be manipulated…by anyone.

*Blog Tour* Mad About You by Sinead Moriarty + GIveaway

Today is my stop in the Mad About You blog tour. Keep reading for an awesome guest post from the author and for a chance to win the book :)

People often ask where my ideas come from for my novels. To date, they have come from observing, reading, listening and from life in general. I have been writing for nine years and I’m always afraid that I’ll run out of ideas. Thankfully, life in all its forms still provides me with plenty of material. As the saying goes, ‘fact is stranger than fiction’ and I really believe this to be true.

The idea for Mad About You came to me when I called over to a friend’s house for coffee and her neighbour called in. She began to tell me the story of what had happened in her life when her husband had been stalked by a ‘stranger’. She said it had affected their marriage and as things got progressively worse and the stalking became more aggressive, that it affected her physically as well as emotionally. She ended up becoming completely paranoid and having panic attacks. They eventually found out who the stalker was. It turned out it was someone they knew but would never, in a million years, have suspected.

The couple in Mad About You, Emma and James, have been married for over ten years and have two children. In fact they are the characters from my first book The Baby Trail. I wrote about their struggle with infertility in that book. I’d had a lot of requests from readers to write about Emma and James again. Readers were wondering what had happened to them.

So, I decided to sit down and see how Emma and James were getting on. It was interesting because in Mad About You, after years of marriage and children, things had become a bit stale between Emma and James. They take each other for granted and they’ve stopped making an effort with each other. Like so many marriages, when children come along, your relationship takes a backseat.

So when James begins getting sex texts from an unknown number, the trust in their marriage is tested to the limit. The book explores trust in all it’s forms. Trust between a married couple, trust between a mother and a childminder and trust between friends.

I had a lovely time revisiting Emma and James. It felt like I was going back to say hello to old friends. I realise that might sound a bit mad, but that is honestly what it felt like. I think I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Emma and James because The Baby Trail was my first book to get published after two failed attempts and tons of rejection letters! So I really feel that Emma and James are my lucky charm! - Sinead Moriarty

The Pleasures Soundtrack
Every writer has at least a million excuses for not writing. It can be the best job or the worst job in the world, depending on how you’re feeling. As someone who also works 9-5, coming home to write after a stressful day is tough.

We all have our tips and tricks to help us zone into another world. Some like silence, one friend writes in McDonalds, another slaps on a pair of headphones to drown out the noise of the kids and listens to heavy metal while she works.

I have a friend who writes screenplays. He imagines that he’s watching his movie on the big screen and listening to the soundtrack. It helps him focus and become totally immersed in what he’s doing. Like him, I use music to help me relax, especially if I have to write a heavy emotional scene or a kinky sex scene. I’ll light a scented candle, put on my favourite tracks and let the music take me.

These are a selection of songs that entertained me while writing The Pleasures of Spring.

(Please read on for the amazing soundtrack put together by the author. However, there are some slight spoilers! - Siobhan)

Marissa Meyer Guest Post + Swag Giveaway (INT)

Facebook Event
Marissa Meyer is coming to the UK

On the 26th March 2013 at 6pm, Marissa will be at the Bromley store for her very first book signing. Sadly, I stay to far away to go but I am always happy to promote and so I am so excited to have Marissa on the blog doing an amazing guest post and not only that, Marissa has kindly offered up some swag for an imternational giveaway!!!!!!!!

For this guest post, Siobhan asked me to talk a little about what inspired the Lunar Chronicles, and I immediately thought—fairy tales, of course! But on top of that, I suppose, was a desire to create something that was both familiar and unusual all at once.

I’ve loved fairy tales since I was a little girl—since first seeing “The Little Mermaid” in theaters, only to follow it up with my first reading of the Hans Christian Andersen tale that inspired Disney and realizing that the two had very little in common. This started an early fascination with fairy tales. Both their old, sometimes tragic versions, but also in the myriad ways writers and creators have re-imagined the stories time and time again.

In high school and college, I went through a retelling phase in which I couldn’t read enough fairy tales. Books by Gail Carson Levine and Gregory Maguire were gobbled up as I sought to bury myself in their magic and whimsy and darkness. And yes, I wrote them too. I wrote two epically long fanfictions that merged the characters of Sailor Moon with all of my favorite Grimm tales, and I even started writing a novel retelling of “East of the Sun, West of the Moon,” but neither of these projects took me very far toward my ultimate goal of becoming a published novelist. The fanfic, I determined, was too much like “The 10th Kingdom,” and my East story was too much like three other books all retelling the same tale.

I began to realize that, as much as I loved fairy tale retellings, I didn’t want to write “just another retelling.” I wanted to write something that I felt had a truly unique twist. Something no one else had done before.

It would be some years still before I finally had The Idea—a vision of Cinderella that wasn’t quite like any Cinderella I’d ever met. Within hours of snagging on my initial concept for CINDER (Cinderella set in the future… as a cyborg!) I knew with that it would be the first novel I would ever finish, the first novel I would attempt to get published.

I’m so thrilled that CINDER did become my first published novel, and I can now claim my own beloved fairy tale retelling among so many others that have inspired me.

A Quickie With.....Renee' Curtis + Giveaway

PictureI've been asked over the last few months why I chose to write erotica. Well the easiest answer would be because people like trashy novels with characters that have hot dirty sex. The kind of stories that make you want to put on your highest heels, something from Frederick's of Hollywood, meet your man at the front door and have mind blowing sex all over your house while the kids are at your mother's!

Or meeting a handsome stranger in a loud dimly lit nightclub, feeling his hands in your hair, smelling his cologne as he pulls you tightly against him and your lips meet his, all the while wondering if your roommates will still be out if you leave right now?

love/life: Hot in HoustonErotica should set your senses on edge, make your mind wonder (and sometimes even your hands), and most of all it should be shared with the one you lust or love the most.

“love/life – Hot in Houston” releasing on November 7th through Firefly & Wisp Publishing is the erotic romance novel for a new generation of readers. Think “True Confessions” for a 21st century world.

About The Author
"I'm the youngest of six kids in my family. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers who all still live relatively close to where we grew up. I'm the wonderer. I've always wanted to live in the big city and have something to do at any time of the day or night. In 2000, I got my wish by moving to Dallas Ft Worth. I love it! The best of the world can be found here from restaurants to shopping. At the moment my favorite place to have dinner is Gloria's on Dallas Parkway and my favorite store to shop in is IKEA. If you ever get around my neck of the woods, give them a try! You won't regret it. I've loved to read as long as I can remember. Reading was a way for me to visit far away places and get to know some really wonderful people. Fern Arable (the girl from Charlotte's Web) was the first girl I identified with. Being raised on a farm in a small town. I could relate to her because she was like me. Books have a way of doing that. I do my best to write interesting stories that people can identify with. You might not be a cardboard cutout of a character but I'll bet something makes you smile and nod your head when you see a character struggle or achieve something that you have dealt with or are dealing with" - Goodreads

League of Strays Blog Tour: Character Excerpt + Author Interview + Giveaway

Today it is my stop in the League of Strays Blog Tour. We have a review (read here) Excerpt, interview and a blog tour giveaway from the author.

The Book: League of Strays
Series: Stand Alone
Pages: 288
Published: 1st Oct 2012

Description:
When a mysterious note appears in Charlotte’s mailbox inviting her to join the League of Strays, she’s hopeful it will lead to making friends. What she discovers is a motley crew of loners and an alluring, manipulative ringleader named Kade. Kade convinces the group that they need one another both for friendship and to get back at the classmates and teachers who have betrayed them. But Kade has a bigger agenda. In addition to vandalizing their school and causing fights between other students, Kade’s real intention is a dangerous plot that will threaten lives and force Charlotte to choose between her loyalty to the League and her own conscience.

Character Excerpt: Kade Harlin
“What happened to your parent?” Nora jumped right to the point. She was either refreshingly direct or hopelessly tactless, I hadn’t made my mind up yet.

“Just your typical nasty divorce,” Kade said, reaching for a bag of potato chips. “You know, spiteful custody battle. Lawyers who pay off their law school debt with my future inheritance. That sort of thing.”

“His uncle owns the building. He lives upstairs,” Richie said.

“It was ludicrous, all the time my parents spent arguing over who wouldn’t get me,” Kade told us. “But my uncle said as long as I didn’t throw any loud parties or burn the place down, I could crash here.”

I was so stunned I had to tell myself to close my mouth.

“He’s the perfect guardian because he leaves me alone,” he added.

About The Author

Interview

1. Have you always been a writer or did the writing bug strike at a certain age?
I believe that writing is a gene that can be handed down. My grandfather and grandmother were writers, too. For me, it struck early, although I lost sight of it a few times as an adult. I wrote awful short stories on my mother’s typewriter, often stolen story lines from The Brady Bunch episodes. My daughter, age 11, writes 1,000 times better than I did at her age. My older daughter is too busy with homework to tell but she did finish a 50,000 book in one month last year. I’m pretty sure they have the gene, too!

2. How did you come to write about this particular genre?
I didn’t chose contemporary, the plot chose me! I also like to write paranormal, although my next book that I’m working on is also contemporary, so maybe I am leaning in that direction. I do like exploring what my teen characters might do in a situation that could be real. I’m into human behavior and why we do what we do.

3. Did you have any significant high or low moments while writing the book/series?
This was the first book I ever wrote, so my writing wasn’t very good originally. It took a long time to find an agent and then a publisher. But I’m very persevering, and I refused to give up on it. I revised and revised and revised until it was polished enough for print. As for the high moments, this book gave me chills when I wrote it, which is always a good sign.

4. What is your favorite part of the writing process?
When I get into the zone and seem to channel the characters. It feels like they are speaking through me. I don’t even feel like a writer at those times, but more like a secretary.
5. What else are you working on?
My next book is about a girl whose mother abruptly moves them out to California. She needs to unveil the secrets and lies that shroud her family, including the reason why her mother told her that her grandmother was dead. What she discovers could alter history and everyone she loves. Oooh, I’m having fun writing this one!

Thanks for hosting me on your site, Siobhan!

Blog Tour: The Color of Grace, Guest Post + Giveaway

Today is out stop in The Color of Grace Blog Tour, We have a guest post from the author and a ebook giveaway!!

The Color of Grace by Linda Kage
When my mother remarried after thirteen years of being a widow, I had to move to a new town and enroll in a new school. Suddenly thrust into an entirely different kind of life, I just wanted to go home. I didn’t want to meet new people, didn’t want to leave my old friends, didn’t want to become a third wheel to my mom and her husband….and I really didn’t want to see Ryder Yates again. Ugh, I still don’t know why I turned down that too-good-to-be-true boy who flirted with me when we were attending separate schools.

But honestly, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It was worse.

Who knew becoming lost in a new life could help a girl find her true colors?
