Bite Me (Demon Underground #1) by Parker Blue

Kindle Size: 336 KB
Published: 30th September 2008
Publisher: Bell Bridge Books
Genre: YA Fantasy, Urban Fantasy

Description:
Life after high school is tough enough without having to go 15 rounds with your inner demon. Val Shapiro is just your ordinary, part-demon, teenaged vampire hunter with a Texas drawl. And a pet hellhound named Fang. Soon enough she finds herself deep in the underbelly of the city, discovering the secrets of the Demon Underground and fighting to save those she loves. Whether they love her back or not.

Review:
Bite Me is a first the Demon Underground Series by Parker Blue. It follow. Val, an eighteen year old who is part human, part lust demon (succubus). She prowls the streets of San Antanio at night hunting down Vampires and Killing them to feed her demon inside that she she calls Lola. However, everything changes for Val when one night her sixteen year sister hides in the backseat of her car which leads Val to being kicked out the house and soon is she is finds herself fighting for those she loves.

When I started this book I thought it had a Buffy feel to it. Now I love Buffy so that is a compliment. Val is a very strong main character. And yet she is very vulnerable after her parents kick her out. All she wants is for a normal life but that wont ever happen. You really feel for her when it comes to her Mother. I hated her mother. Her mother comes across like she doesn't really care about Val and yet Val never stops loving her and wants to be accepted by her. Val has a better relationship with her Stepdad Rick. He is the one who helped Val train to kill vampires and control her demon. However even he doesn't stand up for Val when her mother kicks her out. So I have really mixed feeling about the him. What I really love about Val is even though her parents are winning any parent of the year awards she is still very loyal to them and cares about them especially when her half sister Jen runs away from home and gets involved with vampires.

So yes, I really like Val. However, there are many characters on this book. Some you are going to love and some you will hate. My favourite character is simply wonderful. He gets the funny one liners. He is cute and loyal and furry, Lol. Yes my favourite character is Fang, Val's half dog and half hellhound best friend. Lol. I was honestly laughing out load. He come across all as having all attitude and snarky but deep down he is a big softy and adores Vals.

We also get introduced to the lovely Detective Dan. It is very clear there is a spark with him and Val. He is seven years older than Val and yet Val is quite mature that you forget. I have the image in my head that he looks like Mark Brennan who is an Australian actor in Neighbours.

Parker Blue has create a brillant story. It's a very quick read that had me hooked from the very start. Bite Me is edgy and fun and a great novel that can be enjoyed by the older teens and adults as it crosses over between YA and Adult Urban Fantasy.

I just want to thank NetGalley for providing this book for reviewing

An eBook exclusive story from Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series.

Review:
Since this is only a short story this isn't much I can review on so this is just a short but sweet review.

What a wonderful short story this is. It was just perfect. Usually I am not a fan of short stories in general. However having loved The Iron King I just had to read this and I am really glad I did.

Winter's Passage follows Meghan and Ash's journey to The Unseelie Court. They encounter a terrible beast and for a short story its packed with action. Meghan and Ash seem to grow a little more closer in the story and even though they aren't allowed to be together they are just too cute.

I now can't wait till The Iron Daughter is out the UK and i am looking forward to following this wonderful series to the end.

Review Policy Update

Just a small note to authors and publishers. I am now accepting ebooks for review. I have recently found a software on the computer that allows me to read them without getting headaches.

I am hoping that at the end of March I will be getting a Kindle so that will make reading ebooks easier. Although Im not sure how that would work. Maybe I will invest in a small ereader aswell.

Review
I was asked to review this & got it sent as an ebook. It's the first time i've ever read an ebook & it'll be the last!!. Now i do understand that maybe it's my computer that doesn't have a programme for ebook's, as it was annoying to have to remember what page i was on or write it down somewhere, normally my phone. And i like to be able to go back to recap my mind to a character, Maybe if i had a special programme that allowed me to bookmark pages it'd been easier for me. Anyway on to the story, it's set in times gone by where dragons & goblins live along with mage's,warlocks, trolls & the undead where magic & wizardry is normal. A war begins as they fight over land the sides are chosen good against evil greed overtakes need but nothing ever goes according to plan, just cos you pick one side doesn't mean you can't change your mind. Loyalties aren't always that strong not when your shown the light. The main character is Emun & he is the chosen one even before he was born although his conception wasn't made with love more with need.
I will be honest now this probably isn't a book i'd buy or even look at but i did eventually enjoy it & will want or need to get the next book.
At the start of the book i felt bombarded with characters it seemed that every page there was yet another character but as i found later on in the book they are all necessary for the development of the book. Mathew has a great knack of describing in such detail that i can see it just as he wants you too in my mind, because of that it was a heavy read but that's not a bad thing. At times i was on the edge of my seat it oozes atmosphere, adrenalin & tension. I cried & laughed so much which i never thought i would. Like i said it was a heavy read but i'm not sure that's just down to the book or because it was an ebook. Even though i've not read Lord of the rings (i've watch on of the films sort of) but that's what it reminds me & maybe Harry Potter for adults.

Over all i did enjoy this book & i'd recommend it (printed for me!!) for anyone who likes books with a twist of magic, dragons & all sorts of weird beings

Thank you for letting me review this book & sorry it took me so long to read it!!
