On this wild frontier are glimmers of a different life and the enthralling promise of rebellion. But even as Cassia sacrifices everything to reunite with Ky, ingenious surprises from Xander may change the game once again.

Review:
After reading and really enjoying Matched, I was super excited to start reading Crossed. My expectations were high, thinking it would be better than Matched. However, I found Crossed a disappointing and lacking excitment.

Crossed is set not long after Matched ends. Following the separation between Cassia and Ky. Crossed see our two main characters embarking on difficult journeys in search of each other. Along the way, they sacrifices are made and secrets are reveal.

I am torn on how to review this book. I am not going to lie. I found the plot very very boring. It starts out very promising and had the potiental to be amazing and thrilling. However, it was slow. Very slow, I kept waiting for something exciting to happen and itdidn’t.And  If it wasn’t for the characters in this book I wouldn’t have been able to finish it.

I adore the characters. Cassia and Ky are both very strong lead characters and they make the book worthwhile. Crossed is told from both Cassia and Ky POV and usually I am not a big fan of  POV in some cases it works perfectly. Like here. We get to see a completely different side of Ky and learn more about his background and his parents. I sometimes didn’t want to leave him when it changed back to Cassia. Only because we don’t really learn anything new about Cassia but I love her none the less.

We are also introduced to some new and very interesting characters. Such as Indie. I kinda didn’t know what to think of her. All the way through the book I thought there was something iffy about her but she was always there for Cassia and help her out so that made me like her.

Overall, I personally found this very slow and the story doesn’t really develop much. However, the ending was actually very good and I adore the characters.  I am very interested to see how the next book is and what’s in store for Cassia and Ky.

But she will need all of her intelligence, fearlessness, and wit, because if she fails to find him in time, she will remain trapped in this unfamiliar body forever.

Review:
First I just want to thank Kelly and her publishers for contacting me to review this. I would never have found this little series and I am really excited to follow it.

Borrowing Abby Grace is Episode 1 in The Shadow series. It a short story about Abby, who wakes up in a van and has no idea how she got there. After she escapes she discovers Will, a ghost who tell her she a shadow sent to help people solve their problems. Now is a forced to play Brook, the body she is in and go and find Brook's brother before her time runs out or she will be stuck in Brook's body forever.

What a fun, quick read this book was. I think I read it within about 30 minutes. I really liked Abby, she is confused about what is happening but she knows what she has to do and just tackles the problem straight on. She has a lot of courage. I really liked the chemistry between her and Will, I hope something develops there as Will comes across very nice and just wants to help Abby.

As this is only a short story, there isn't really any world building or even that much character development but the plot is very good and this is the perfect starter to the series. It's really fast, never boring and with a great twist at the end when we find out who the kidnappers are.

Overall, if you want a quick and fun read please give this new series a try you won't be disappointed!

Description:
Featuring necklaces made of wishes; an underground shop dealing in teeth; magical tattoos; a wishbone on a cord, DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE is a thrilling story about Karou and her secret life as an apprentice to a wishmonger. Karou manages to keep her two lives in balance. On the one hand, she is a seventeen-year-old art student in Prague; on the other, errand-girl to an inhuman creature who deals in wishes and is the closest thing she has to family. Her life is surrounded by mysteries she is desperate to unveil.

Review:
Everyone and their grans have been so excited for this book. It has been the buzz of the book world for what seems like forever. So when I got a chance to actually review the UK arc OMG you should have seen me the day it came through. I was so tempted to read it weeks ago but I stayed strong and waiting to closer to the release date. I finally started it last week. And in total honesty, the book was was good but I was slightly disappointed.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone tells the story of Karou a young girl who is brought up in two world. The regular world and a world that is filled with magic, mystery and inhuman creatures. Karou is trying to balance her two lives. However, when she meets Akiva her world and everything she thought she knew about herself is blown apart and who is she is revealed.

Karou is a really interesting character. I am actually on the fence on whether I liked her or not. She is a strong character and is very unique but sometimes she comes across quite immature. But there is no denying the fact that she is never boring. She is also quite funny. I really like that about her. I guess I did warm up to her more when she gets to Akiva, the chemistry behind them is wonderful and draws you into the story.

I really did struggle alot of with this book. It took me about a week to read it. And it kinda annoyed me because it was slow then picked up then when slow again then picked up again. The start of this book for me was pretty dull and didn't really get interesting until we are introduced to Akiva. However, it does drag on for a good bite with alot of world building. Now I like world building in books I do. But there is ALOT in this that it kinda put be off. And it could go pages without any of the characters actually having a conversation. I am one of those people who like alot of conversations between the characters in a book.

HOWEVER, and this is a big however. The last 100 or so pages were OMG, explosive, exciting, freaking amazing! It totally made up for the rest of the book. When I was reading it I set myself a reading goal before bed to only read a little bit but I was completing drawn in to the book and the characters stories that I ended up sitting finishing the book and was left breathless with how the ending turn out.

So overall, I was slightly disappointed in the book but the ending was awesome enough that I can't wait for book two and see how this series develops and what's in store for Karou.

Pariah Issue #1 by Aron Warner

Format: PDF
Pages: 32
Published: July 2011
Publisher: Sea Lions Book
Genre: YA, SciFI
Buy: SeaLionBooks

Description:
Brent Marks is not a freak. He is one of the Pariah, a group of teens who become extremely intelligent after being cured of a genetic disorder. Although in most ways a normal teen, Brent is considered dangerous and is tracked down by the government who see these kids as an enormous threat. Can he evade them? What do they have planned for Brent and the others?

Review:
This isn't the normal story line that perks my interest. However, when Sea Lions asked me review the comic I thought I would give it ago. And I was pleasantly suprised that I actually found it enjoyable.

Pariah is set in the year 2025 and follows the story of Brent. Brent want to be normal teenager but he isn't. He is a vitros. Someone who is extremely intelligent above the norm. After a very serious incident the goverment claim that all Vitros are terrorists and soon Brent in a whole heap of trouble.

Usually this would be something I wouldn't normally read. The story line isn't one that I though would hold my interest. However, when I started reading I found it quite good. Brent comes across as someone who is very vunerable, he just wants to get by day by day and be a normal kid. Sadly, he can't. You really feel for him and I think that what draws me to the character.

As this is Issue #1 it a good set up to the series and follow Brent going from trying to be a normal kid to having his world blow apart. I don't want to give anything away. But I will say that the ending is very exciting and I am looking forward to start Issue #2 in the next couple of days.

Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey

Format: Kindle eARC
Published: September 20, 2011
Publisher: HarperTeen
Genre: YA Fantasy, Paranormal

Description:
“It seemed so right. Danny was mine, I was his, and that wasn’t going to work if he was dead. So I would make him not dead, not anymore. I didn’t think any further than what it would feel like to kiss him again, to wrap my arms around him and bury my head against his shoulder. That was my first mistake. It also turned out to be the biggest.” When her boyfriend, Danny, is killed in a car accident, Wren can’t imagine living without him. Wild with grief, she uses the untamed powers she’s inherited to bring him back. But the Danny who returns is just a shell of the boy she once loved. Wren has spent four months keeping Danny hidden, while her life slowly unravels around her. Then Gabriel DeMarnes transfers to her school and somehow, inexplicably, he can sense her secret. Wren finds herself drawn to Gabriel, who is so much more alive than the ghost of the boy she loved. But Wren can’t turn her back on Danny or the choice she made for him—and she realizes she must find a way to make things right, even if it means breaking her own heart. Amy Garvey’s transcendent teen debut is perfect for fans of Shiver and Beautiful Creatures. Wren’s unforgettable voice and story will stay with readers long after the last page is turned.

Review:

Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey is an interesting take on the lengths one person would go to be with the one they love after they die.

Main character Wren loses her boyfriend Danny in a tragic car accident and is suffering through a horrible grieving period. She has always known she is different than other people, her whole family is - she can cause lightbulbs to explode, create fire by thought, her mother and aunt have these powers as well - only her mother has never fully explaned what she is or what she can do. One night Wren decides she misses Danny too much and wants him back. And she creates a spell that her special powers enable. She brings Danny back to life. Sort of.

Danny is living in a zombie-like state in the senile neighbor's garage waiting for Wren's visits, slowly beginning to piece together the memories of the past leading up to his death. Wren meets a new boy at school, Gabriel, who can sense she is "different" by reading her mind and coaxes her into telling him the whole story and together they set out to solve the mystery of righting what she has done to Danny.

To me, the premise of this story was good; however, the execution was not. For one, Wren missed Danny so much she brought him back from the dead, but once she did, she seemed to find him more of a nuisance than being happy to have him back. Also, the main characters were well developed, but the secondary characters, such as Wren's friends fell flat to me. Even Danny never got a chance to really develop as a character.

I really liked the concept of this book and kept hoping for more explanation as I read on, the kind of "oh now everything comes together moment", but that never happened here. Amy Garvey left some loose ends on what I felt like was a really great story. It was a quick, enjoyable, easy read, but left me wanting more closure in the end. This book would definitely do well with a sequel.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

Format: Paperback
Pages: 187
Published: November 1st 2007
Publisher: Sphere
Genre: Romance

Description:
North Carolina, October 1946. Noah Calhoun has recently returned from war: he tries to forget the horrors he has seen and experienced by restoring an old plantation home. But though his days are spent working, his nights too often give way to dreams of his past.

Fourteen years ago, Noah fell in Love with a girl, and he is still haunted by her memory but convinced he will never find her again. But when the past slips into the present, Noah realises his ghosts are never far away.

Review:
My friend loaned me her copy of this book and I was excited to read it. Having being totally in love with movie. I had real high hope. However, I was slightly disappointed.

The Notebook is a love story about a man and woman who after fourteen years apart are reunited and fall in love all over again. Seems like a great premise for a love story. However, it just doesn't come across as believable. The characters lacked the passion that you would expected from this love story. Noah, comes over a bit simple, still pined after a girl spent a few weeks with when he was boy. Allie, just came across are very selfish, leaving her fiance just two weeks before her wedding to go visit Noah. I just didn't seem believable to me.

Nicholas Sparks has a world wide fan based. Honestly I don't understand why. He goes into far too much details about the smallest and more boring thing. Making me quiet a few times really fall asleep.

However, I pushed through the book and it wasn't till near enough the end that I began to like it and I was a bubbling mess. And I mean proper snot tears. I had to stop reading a few times because I couldn't even see from tears. So by the end I did like the story and now I am looking forward to reading more of Sparks work.

The Power of Six (Lorien Legacies #2) by Pittacus Lore

Format: ARC Hardback
Pages: 384
Published: 23rd Aug 2011
Publisher: Puffin
Genre: YA, Sci-Fi

Description:
We are the last defence. I've seen him on the news. Followed the stories about what happened to John Smith. To the world he's a mystery, but to me ...he's one of us. Nine of us came here, but sometimes I wonder if time has changed us, if we all still believe in our mission. There are six of us left. We're hiding, blending in, avoiding contact with one another, but our Legacies are developing and soon we'll be ready to fight. Is John Number Four - and is his appearance the sign I've been waiting for? And what about Number Five and Six? Could one of them be the raven-haired girl with the stormy eyes from my dreams? The girl with powers that are beyond anything I could ever imagine? The girl who might be strong enough to bring the six of us together? They caught Number One in Malaysia. Number Two in England. And Number Three in Kenya. They tried to catch Number Four in Ohio ...and failed. I am Number Seven. And I'm ready to fight.

Review:
After reading I am Number Four (my review) I was super excited to read The Power of Six. So you can imagine my excitement when I managed to get an ARC of this.I was honestly doing a happy dance when my postman delivered it. However, when I started reading it I was very disappointed until about the last 100 pages then I really enjoyed it.

The Power of Six follows two different stories. It starts of with Marina, number Seven who lives in an Orphanage in Spain. She has been there for a while with her Cespian. However, her Cespain has lost sight in their gal and refuses to acknowledge anything do to with Lorien. We also still get to follow John (number Four), Sam and number Six on the run from the police and Mogadorians.

As I said I loved I am Number Four so I had really high expectation for this novel. I am Number Four was an explosive novel full of action and sadly The Power of Six was no where near as good. I found the story rather boring if I'm honest. I found the storyline very slow that it honestly took me two weeks to read. I just couldn't get in to the story I think it was the changing in POV. I am not the biggest fan to having more than one POV in a story and this really confused me alot. So for  me that really slowed thing down. The story line wasn't up to much. I kept waiting for something really exciting to happen and it wasn;t until the last 100pages or so that the story really picked up and got super exciting and full of action.

The characters I didn't really connect with them in this book. They are all still strong characters but I just couldn't get into their heads to like them that much. Especially Marina, I wasn't really looking forward to reading her story to start with because it was taking me away from John and his story but I did like how on a few occassion they two stories overlap and its pretty cool. We also get to hear Six's story. I really like Six I think she is the best character in the story. And I loved that there is the beginning of  love triangle between Six, John and Sam so I am looking forward to seeing how that turns out especially since John is already with Sarah.

Even though I wasn't into the story until near the end I am still really excited for the next book as the ending is just fantastic. Those last 100 pages made the book. Full of action which I love and the actual ending is like OMG I need the next book.

Dear John by Nicholas Sparks

Format: Paperback
Pages: 338
Published: November 29th 2007
Publisher: Sphere
Genre: Adult Romance

Description:
Is duty enough reason to live a lie? When John meets Savannah, he realises he is ready to make some changes. Always the angry rebel at school, he has enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life. Now he's ready to turn over a new leaf for the woman who has captured his heart. What neither realises is that the events of 9/11 will change everything. John is prompted to re-enlist and fulfil what he feels is his duty to his country. But the lovers are young and their separation is long. Can they survive the distance?

Review:
I am completely tor in half with this book. On one hand I really enjoyed it. On the other hand, I hated the ending and it completely ruin the book for me.

Dear John is a very wonderful story of John, the rebel turned solider. On leave from the army he meets Savannah and very quickly he is smitten. I have to say they are adorable. They are complete opposites and thats why it worked so well. John is a loner, strong, and well oh so yummy. Savannah is a little naive and innocent yet she she isn't scared of John when alot of people are. They are just adorable together. However, soon its time for John to get back to the army. Can their love make it?

The story is split into Three parts. The first two parts I loved. However the third and final part is what has me torn. And is the reason why I only gave this a 3/5 rating. Saying that part three we get to see a totally different side of John. We see the caring side of him when he is dealing with his father. And it melted my heart how this big touch army solider can be so sweet and caring.

I feel that this isn't much of a review. However, I hate putting spoilers in reviews. It just not fair on those who haven't read it. I want to explain why I hated the ending so much but it will give away the big spoiler in novel. All I will say is even though the story is fast paced, and beautifully written you may feel very disappointment and cheated by the ending.

Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson

Format: Paperback

Pages: 246
Published: 20th March 2008
Publisher: Hodder Children's Books
Genre: YA, Realistic Fiction

Description:

High school senior Tyler Miller used to be the kind of guy who faded into the background—average student, average looks, average dysfunctional family. But since he got busted for doing graffiti on the school, and spent the summer doing outdoor work to pay for it, he stands out like you wouldn’t believe. His new physique attracts the attention of queen bee Bethany Milbury, who just so happens to be his father’s boss’s daughter, the sister of his biggest enemy—and Tyler’s secret crush. And that sets off a string of events and changes that have Tyler questioning his place in the school, in his family, and in the world.

Review:
Twisted is my first book by Laurie Halse Anderson. It didn't completey grab me yet it was still enjoyable to read.

Twisted focus on Tyler, a boy who before "The Foul Deed" was pretty much invisible to the rest the student body. Now everyone knows who he is and some are a little afraid of him with his new Bad Boy status. Tyler was really easy to read. Usually I struggle with a males point of view. However, Laurie is managed to create Tyler perfectly. He is quite a complexed character. On the outside he seems like he is dealing with all life just as well as everyone else. However, inside he is struggling and as the events of the story unravel we see Tyler tackle some very hard situations.

Laurie has managed to create a great read that tackles some very serious issues. And while focuses on these issues she still managed to create some very funny moments so it was a balance out story.

However, even though I did enjoy it. I felt that the ending was a little disappointing and some of the issues could have be developed more so the readers could get a proper feel for them.

Overall, if you are looking for a fast read, that will keep you interested from start to finish then this is the book for you.
