I first started this book a few weeks ago and I just couldn't get into. I pushed myself to read a good bit and for the life of me I just couldn't connect with the book. So I decided to give myself a wee break from it and go back at a later date. The other night something just compelled to pick the book up again. So I started reading from the beginning again and well....the next thing I knew it was 2am and I had finished the book. It was magnificent, exciting and breathtaking. My only problem now is waiting for the book two to be released next year!!!!! I don't think I can wait that long.

The Crown's Game follows Nikolai and Vika. Two teenagers who have been training their entire life's to become The Imperial Enchanter of Russia. However, there can only be ONE Imperial Enchanter as a result they must compete in The Crown's Game. One must win and one must die. Although competing in the Game is not as easy as it seems when the two enchanters are drawn to one another making it a lot harder. And Pasha, Nikolai best friend and heir to the throne is also falling for Vika making The Crown's Game all the more dangerous. Can Nikolai kill the girl that he and his best friend are falling for? Or will he end up being he one who is killed?

Nikolai and Vika are two completely different characters. They have a different type of magic but the connection between them is wonderful. There is no forced attraction between them. They are drawn to each other from the moment they meet but it's works within the story. The chemistry they have isn't that of a typical YA read because this isn't a typical YA read. Nikolai is charming and handsome and seems to be good at everything he does. Yet he isn't cocky or arrogant about it. Vika is head strong and determined. A fantastic role model in the YA genre. Together they have that "forbidden" thing going on but not quite. They know they shouldn't feel a connection because they are enemies but they are just drawn to each other like a cruel twist of fate.

Then there is Pasha, oh so cheeky you can't help but like him. I was worried about there being a "Love triangle" but the author manages to create it perfectly and works into the story. It's not something that is there just to fill the pages. The character development and main plot is the focus of the book not the "romance".

The Crown's Game was quite simply amazing! Set in Imperial Russia that has such a magical and awe inspiring setting. I don't really know about Imperial Russia I remember briefly studying it in History in high school but I don't know anything about it. However, I have seen films set in that time frame and it always seem so magical especially in the winter. And The Crown's Game has that element in abundance. I found myself being transported into this beautiful place and not wanting to leave. Add in the actual magic and I was hooked.

The Crown's Game is full of twists and turns. Some do hit you out of nowhere, leaving you sitting in utter shock. While some, I have to admit I knew where the author taking certain parts of the story but still the excitement of getting there made up for me guessing. And then there were parts of the story that really didn't need to be there and you are left with so many questions that did get me frustrated and I only hope things will be answered in the next installment.

So if you are looking for a draw dropping, exciting and magical read that has the ability to take your breath away then please give The Crown's Game a try. You will not be disappointed.

Review:

Living in a world that goes against everything you believe in, is difficult for anyone.  Oriana knows something is just not right, and the struggle she faces in this book, is nothing short of heart wrenching. With every setback she encounters from the mysterious Odon holding her back, it takes the true love from an unexpected source to make her realise that life doesn't always go the way you expect it to.

Reading this book, I felt compelled to shout at Oriana both to warn her of the dangers ahead, and, to make her see that she wasn't alone. It did take a while to get into, but once i did it was nothing short of amazing.  The highs and lows faced by the characters, bring out the emotional turmoil that everyone faces in their daily lives, reminding them that there is that light at the end of the tunnel.

I would most certainly recommend this book to anyone, and everyone. In the times of today where people lose sight of the most important things, this book is a true reminder that everything can be overcome by faith and determination.

Review:
Obsidian is not your typical alien novel! It is far from that. Katy, the main character, moves to a small town in West Virginia. Things seem boring until she meets Daemon - He is anything but boring. I immediately loved both characters. Katy is a book blogger and was so easy to relate to in that respect. Daemon was arrogant and should have been totally unlikable, but somehow his personality created a chemistry with Katy's that was very believable and real.

Jennifer Armentrout really put a unique spin on aliens with Obsidian. Normally I steer clear of books with aliens; however, I was fascinated with the world she built. The plot was well constructed, the storyline never lagged, and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Her writing is excellent and I can easily see why she is becoming such a popular author!

Obsidian is definitely a book for fans of YA paranormal and for those who don't normally read about aliens because Jennifer will entrance you with her story and make you believe in a whole new world of possibilities. The next book can't come soon enough!

Review:
There are almost no words on where to start with a review for Wither. It is such a unique, refreshing book. The plot is so unlike any book I have ever, ever read. A genetic mutation causes all girls to die at twenty years old and all boys to die at twenty-five years old. Because of this, Rhine Ellery has been abducted by wealthy Linden Ashby's father, unaffected by this mutation, to become one of three sister wives for his son. The population is taking multiple wives at young adulthood in an attempt to re-populate society while scientists and doctors search for an antidote for this virus killing off the masses.

Wow. Just wow. Rhine, Cecily, and Jenna are all married to Linden, and couldn't be more different. I couldn't necessarily connect with any of the girls on a personal level, but I came to really like each one. Rhine is headstrong and determined to save herself from a life of luxurious imprisonment. Cecily is young, naive, eager to please, and oh-so happy to be the wife of a House Governor. Jenna is strong, bitter, and determined to ride out the end of her life getting Linden back for stealing her family.

The plot was amazing. I loved reading the intricacies of the sister wives, the way the luxurious mansion is set up to depict the outside world with holograms, and how Linden's father has created a suspicious, mysterious environment that is just begging to be unraveled.

This was a book I could not put down. It goes beyond the boundaries of normal dystopian fiction and touches on so much more. Three girls are torn from their worlds and are forced into a polygamous marriage - albeit in a luxurious, wealthy mansion they are imprisoned in - but they learn to create a family amongst themselves with their sister wives. I loved watching each of them grow and develop and the plot never grew stale. The suspense and mystery of the mansion's activities kept the pages turning quickly.

I have fallen in love with Lauren DeStefano's writing and am eagerly awaiting the release of Fever!

Review:

The Mers was a very interesting and exciting novel! It combines two of my very favorite genres and blends them into an enchanting story. Ami Blackwelder writes a mermaid dystopian that is a combination of action and romance that is extremely fast-paced from the very first page and never stops until the end.

I was a little surprised at how Ami Blackwelder described the dystopian world because it seemed so realistic. Often times dystopian worlds can seem a bit far-fetched, but this seemed entirely plausible and her description of how the Mers' appearances evolved was plausible as well. Seeing as how they are not the "traditional" mermaids, this made the story fresh and exciting.

Mira and Nerin are both very strong characters that you really grow to love as you get to know them. Their personalities balance each other perfectly and you want to see them succeed in their adventure so badly! Mira's hunt for her birth parents sends her, Nerin, and his sister Nerissa into the world of Remnantville, a place where Mers are hunted and killed, their bodies used to make products for the Aristos. The three of them must stay safe, unravel the mystery behind Mira's identity, and possibly save the Mers all at the same time.

Ami Blackwelder's writing is very vivid and colorful. She paints a picture with her words that leaves readers with a gorgeous image of the sea and the creatures inside it. The action inside this novel will leave readers turning the pages long into the night. While the story had a good resolution in my opinion, I can definitely see how the next two books will add so much more to the series. This is a brilliant start!!

Review:

The House of Night series has been one of my long time favorites but the last three or four books have been more and more of a let down. Each one has been gradually declining in the storyline and the characters have started to fall flat, almost like the series has run its course.

However, in Destined, P.C. & Kristin Cast really shake things up and the story almost reads like the original few books. The characters are bold-voiced and really make the plot work for them. That said, the plot in this book is outstanding. The beginning starts out a little bit slow but when it picks up - it really takes off!

Darkness has an ever present role in the novel and Neferet is out to sabotage the fledglings more than normal, as well as bring chaos to the professors by introducing humans to the school. She has spun her web of Darkness around herself, her Consort, and is slowly spinning it around those at the school who are on the side of good...and with each page the story unveils something new about who really is on the side of light and dark.

Zoey is dealt a harsh blow in this book; however, she doesn't seem as angsty or whiny, which was refreshing. The side story involving the triangle of Rephaim/Stevie Rae/Kalona was absolutely riveting. The Casts also introduce us to a new Priestess who really shed new light on the atmosphere of the House of Night.

There were so many shocking twists and turns in this book that I absolutely cannot wait for the next one! The ending was a total cliffhanger that left me gasping because in a million years, I never could have seen that coming. This may possibly be my favorite House of Night book yet!!

Born at Midnight was a wonderful take on blending all species of supernaturals into one environment. Main character Kylie is reeling after learning about her parents divorce and is shipped to Shadow Falls Summer Camp - a camp for delinquent teens. She soon learns every teen is not human. The camp is populated by werewolves, witches, shapeshifters, faeries, vampires, and other magical creatures. Only Kylie has no idea what supernatural entity she is. All she knows is that she can see the ghost of a soldier and has terrifying night terrors.

The quest to decipher her background is aided by her new roommates, vampire Della, and witch Miranda, and the two boys Lucas and Derek who both have their eyes set on stealing her heart before the summer is out.

Kylie's journey of self-discovery in this book is real and exciting, leaving you hanging on the edge of your seat as you yearn to find out more about her true self and watch her grow over the course of the summer.

In addition to the personal growth aspect, the camp is being threatened to be shut down by the government and this happens just as Kylie is beginning to accept her supernatural status. Her mission soon changes to saving the camp so she can save her camp and herself.

C.C. Hunter writes a wonderful tale about teenage self-discovery, blends it flawlessly with interesting supernatural elements, and adds in enough suspense at the end to have a climax that rocks the core of the book.

Fans of young adult supernatural novels will no doubt fall in love with Kylie and company and Shadow Falls!!
