Description:
After accidentally killing everyone in her class, Alice Wonder is now a patient in the Radcliffe Lunatic Asylum. No one doubts her insanity. Only a hookah-smoking professor believes otherwise; that he can prove her sanity by decoding Lewis Carroll's paintings, photographs, and find Wonderland's real whereabouts. Professor Caterpillar persuades the asylum that Alice can save lives and catch the wonderland monsters now reincarnated in modern day criminals. In order to do so, Alice leads a double life: an Oxford university student by day, a mad girl in an asylum by night. The line between sanity and insanity thins when she meets Jack Diamond, an arrogant college student who believes that nonsense is an actual science.

Insanity is one of our Books of the Month/Group Reads over on Goodreads and Facebook. I have had it for a while because I like the some of the authors other books. Insanity was Insane! The story was unpredictable and confusing but of some reason it totally work!

Alice Wonder is a patient in an asylum. She is there after she accidentally killed other kid's in class.  She can't remember anything about the accident and doesn't know what to believe. However, when the "Cheshire Cat" goes on a killing Spree, another patient in the Asylum called Professor Carter Pillar believe Alice is the key to stopping the Cheshire. Leading her to go on a very crazy adventure in the bid to stopping "Cheshire Cat" before he kills again.

So this is a retelling and twisted version of the amazing tale by Lewis Carroll.  Alice in Wonderland is  a wonderful and crazy story anyway. However, the author has upped the craziness!! It's completely insane. A lot of the situations that characters end up in you are thinking "how the hell did that happen?" A lot of it isn't explained and all over the place but I personally think because the plot itself is so wild it actually works and makes the story more exciting and mysterious!

The characters are all freaking crazy but amazing and brilliantly written especially Pillar!!! He has the best lines. Here are two of my favourites:

"You're caring too much about people, Alice," he says. "Take it from me: sane is mundane, insanity is the new black."

“On a scale from one to insanity, how insane are you?

If you are a fan of retellings with a twist then give this book a go. It's a quick read and very enjoyable. Be warned though it is a bit mad!!

  1. Great review! I will have to try this book as I do love retellings and a bit of unpredictability sounds good as a lot of the time I can guess what is going to happen next.
