Review:
Deception is book 1 in the Haunting Emma series. It tells the tale of Emma a seventeen year girl who is left alone after her parents go in yet another business trip. She has a house party but things don't go to plan. She soon finds herself being moved to Echo Point with her new but super cute Guardian, Bennett. Emma is enrolled into Thatcher Academy and is starting to experience visions and secrets from her past begin to unravel and literally come back to haunt her.

Deception is first and foremost a ghost story. It's not a scary ghost story but has just the right amount of creepiness and chills along with the characters and spooky setting it truely captivated my imagination.

Emma is one of those characters I liked straight from the start. I really felt for her and just wanted to be her friend because its clear that her parents leave her on her own a lot and that's just horrible. So when she ends up moving to Echo Point we get to see a really nice and flirty side of her. She seems to fit in well at school apart from seeing the odd ghost here and there. She connects with Coby, one of the popular boys at school. And its clear as day that he adores Emma. Always there for her. Making sure she ok. But Emma secretly loves Bennett but as the book continues Bennett shares some secret of his own and Emma falls even deeper even though he wants to hate him.

Deception was a very quick read. I devoured in a one day. I haven't read many ghost stories mainly because I scare easily so I always try to pick them carefully. And this was a perfect balance. The ghosts in this story for the most part, are actually really nice and the relationship Emma forms with them is quite magical. However, they aren't all nice, some are dark and evil and gave me the creeps.

Now, as much as I can honestly say I loved this story. There is a lot of unanswered questions that drove me crazy. I can only hope they are resolved in book 2.

  4. Hi, Lydia Bennet here! I usually use books for curl papers for ringlet maintenance but I like a good ghost story and if it has hot fit men in it so much the better!
