Encyclopedia of a Series

By

Kimber An

Together with my husband and children, I must own a couple dozen encyclopedias for the Star Trek, Star Wars, and Harry Potter series. Maybe some people don’t understand how it feels to get that lost in a fictional universe. I never really thought about it, personally, until I was about half way through the third novel of my Ophelia Dawson series.

I originally started The Ophelia Dawson Chronicles [http://theopheliadawsonchronicles.blogspot.com/] as a sister blog for my main site to provide readers with definitions and explanations behind the series. I’d noticed that readers and movie-goers liked having an encyclopedia to keep track of things.

Well, the Ophelia Dawson series is five books long and the third, Sweet Bytes, will be released Monday, October 17th by Noble Young Adult. I have now gotten to the point where the encyclopedia is no longer just for fun. The fictional universe has evolved and expanded to a point where *I forget* things.

What are the Newbloods’ ‘kryptonite?’

Why does Brandon come off as a developmentally delayed young teen when he’s actually a super-powerful vampire?

How did a smart girl like Ophelia get mixed up with a monster like Martin?

When did Tristan first kiss Ophelia and why did he apologize?

What are the main differences between the vampire-like alien/human hybrid Newbloods and the Oldblood Vampires?

Why haven’t the old vamps already stamped out these new thugs?

Why does Martin call Ophelia his Sweet? Oh, no, wait! I remember that one. It’s because she has Type 1 Diabetes.

My eldest daughter is a huge Harry Potter fan. I am too, but she can tell you exactly where all the kissing scenes and type-ohs are in every single book. Want to know what loose threads were left dangling after the end of Deathly Hallows? She’s the girl to ask.

I know I’m not J. K. Rowling, but I was called down on a DNA science insistency by a reader once. I know readers are smart!

Authors miss things and the Harry Potter series proves even the best editors in the world don’t always catch them. It’s because the fictional universe is so big inside the author’s imagination that it often overwhelms us.

So, I’ll keep updating that encyclopedia. Even if you guys don’t need it, I do!

And I’ll keep having my daughter be my first reader too.

I figure, she’s a professional Young Adult, so I’d better pay attention.

Thank you, Siobhan, for hosting me here today!

There will be a drawing to win a free eBook copy of Sweet Bytes for everyone who comments on this post. Also, a Grand Prize will be handed out next week to celebrate too. I just bought part of it, a plush toy Alaskan Moose!

Sweet Bytes (Ophelia Dawson Chronicles #2) by Kimber An

Ophelia’s escape from Martin, an Addicted Newblood, came at a terrible sacrifice. Adrian, the boy she loves, is now infected and hunted like vermin.

As her new Protector, Tristan Li represents the Oldblood determination to destroy Adrian, along with all the Newbloods, addicted or not.

In her grief, Ophelia hates everything about Tristan, until his subtle strength empowers her to resist being turned into a vampire by the High Prefect.

As Tristan helps Ophelia harness her empathic ability, his need for redemption rings in her heart. Her own strength grows, along with her passion for freedom.

The veil of mourning lifts.

The evil of Martin returns.

Ophelia seizes ownership of her destiny.
