Description:
~She reads mind. He controls minds. Together, they might get out alive.~ Sam thinks she's months away from freedom. After spending her life in a secret school, rented out to the rich and powerful as a paranormal spy, she is ready to head to college like any normal eighteen-year-old. Only Sam isn't normal. She reads minds. And just before her big going-away party, she links to the mind of a young man who changes everything. Drake wasn't raised as a 'Rent-A-Kid.' He was kidnapped and taken there by force. But his exceptional physical strength and powers of mind control make him very dangerous, especially to Sam. When they meet, Sam is forced to face the truth of her situation, and to acknowledge that not all is as it seems in her picture-perfect world. For what awaits her on her eighteenth birthday isn't a trip to college, but an unexpected nightmare from which she may not be able to escape. To survive, they must work together. But will their powers be enough to save them before it's too late?

Review:

Forbidden Mind was an amazing book! It was unlike any YA paranormal novel out there. While on the shorter side of the novel spectrum at just under a hundred pages, it is a quick easy read, but never once lacks in action or depth.

Kimberly Kinrade has created a mesmerizing world that main character, Sam, compares to a teenage version of the X-Men. They are all teens with para-powers living at what appears to be an elite boarding school (dubbed "Rent-a-Kid" by the teens) and are sent out on assignments that "pay them" in funds to be used after they turn eighteen. Sam soon realizes things are not as they seem as she becomes severely ill and wakes up in a hospital where she meets a mystery boy, Drake.

Drake, also has a para-power. Together they begin to unravel the mystery surrounding Sam's "illness" and the truth about Rent-a-Kid. Sam and Drake begin to learn more than they ever imagined and hatch a plan to take the situation into their own hands and hopefully come out alive.

Kimberly Kinrade told a story that was literally impossible to put down. The plot was fresh and unique, the characters were real, and the dialogue was never lacking. This is one novel I couldn't turn pages fast enough on because each page had another plot twist or spike in action. The plot never slowed or lulled and was a wonderful read from start to finish!
