Description:
Since the beginning of mankind, civilizations have fallen: the Romans, the Greeks, the Aztecs...and now us. Huge earthquakes rock the world. Cities are destroyed. But something even more awful is happening: An ancient evil has been unleashed, and it's turning everyday people into hunters, killers, and crazies. This is the world Mason, Aries, Clementine, and Michael are living in--or rather, trying to survive. Each is fleeing unspeakable horror, from murderous chaos to brutal natural disasters, and each is traveling the same road in a world gone mad. Amid the throes of the apocalypse and clinging to love and meaning wherever it can be found, these four teens are on a journey into the heart of darkness--and to find each other and a place of safety.

Review:
Dark Inside is one of those books that is completely different to anything I have read before. I was hooked on the book from page one. However, being in a weird reading slump it took me a while to read but when I got about halfway through I couldn't put it down and snapped out my slump. I devoured the second half in one sitting. It was intense, dark and thrilling, everything I like! Although I have to attempt the four POVs changes took a lot of get my head around.

The story follows four main characters. All teenagers who have lost their families due to the earthquake and the evil. All of them want to live and must fight to survive. Mason, Aries, Clementine and Michael. They have all such power and unique voices. Mason was my favourite I think. Even though they all go through so much. Mason just doesn't get a break. There is so much darkness in him, so much anger that when reading the book it's easy to understand. I connected to him more than the rest of the characters. Aries is kickass! She is strong and takes charge. She thinks of others before herself. Michael is also a take charge character. However, a side to him that makes him vulnerable. Clementine is on her own for most the story, the only company is herself talking to her brother in her own head. I found that very interesting. The four of these characters have different stories to tell.

Dark Inside is a very dark teen novel. It's gritty, harsh and sometimes scary. This is not set in the future. It's in the present which makes it quite unnerviing with the supernatural element to it. The Evil that has taken over the world, making people turn on each other makes me shiver.

Jeyn has created a fantastic first book in what I hope to an an explosive series. She keeps the book dark from the start to finish throwing in twists and turns that keep the readers guessing what going to happen next. She also add a hint of mystery to the story with the added chapters that are told by someone simply called "Nothing". She doesn't tell us who this person is or if it's one person or not. It makes it all the more creepy.

I highly recommend Dark Inside. If you are lookimg for something different, dark and full of action then give this a go. However, I suggest you make sure you have Rage Within (book 2) handy because you will need to straight away after you finish!
