Jennifer L. Armentrout OBSIDIAN Blog Tour Interview and Giveaway!

Today at Totally Bookalicious, I had the pleasure of interviewing the wonderful Jennifer L. Armentrout, author of Obsidian, which was released on December 6th by Entangled Publishing. Before we begin, here is the synopsis for Obsidian:

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

And now that everyone is intrigued, here is my interview with Jennifer:

Destiny: Have you always wanted to write or were you bitten by the writing bug somewhere along the way?

Jennifer: As cliche as it sounds, I've always wanted to be a writer. Ever since I was wee little.

Destiny: Have you always loved the paranormal genre? Is there a favorite being you like more than another?

Jennifer: The paranormal genre has always been my favorite, mainly because like with fantasy, there is so, so much you can do with it and so many different worlds to explore. My favorite would have to be vamps, of course, but on the adult side. I'm not real big on the vamp stories in YA, but I love me some adult romance with vamps.

Destiny: Since Obsidian is being spotlighted here on the blog, I must ask, how did you come up with the idea to write about aliens?

Jennifer: How Obsidian came into creation was really abnormal. It started off as an email from my editor at Entangled after I turned in my adult novel for edits. Jokingly, she asked if I had any interest in writing about aliens in high school since she hadn't seen anything like that in her submissions, and I laughed. A lot. I was like "Aliens?" But then I got thinking and I came up with a plot and characters. The last thing I had created was what kind of alien they were. So half of the book, I was writing Daemon picturing him as a giant insect, lol.

Destiny: While this was an alien themed book, you did not take the stereotypical alien "type" with your characters. What made you decide to make your aliens so different?

Jennifer: I'm not sure what the typical alien type is. Insect? Little green men? LOL. I'm not into hardcore science fiction, so I really wanted to keep Obsidian scfi light. I think that helped determine what kind of aliens they were, and also consulting with people with physics degrees helped. Believe it or not, but the rocks used in the book have an impact on the kind of ....um, alien DNA they have.

Destiny: I loved how Katy was a book blogger! Have you, or do you, blog as as well?

Jennifer: Yep, I have a blog and try to keep up with it.

Destiny: Have you plotted out a set number of books for the Lux series?

Jennifer: The second book is finished and with the editor. I'm also writing a novella right now that will come out in Feb 2012. I haven't started the third one yet. I don't outline, but have a general idea of what is going to happen.

Destiny: And most of all, when can we expect the next installment?

Jennifer: Right now, Onyx is scheduled for May 2012 but that can change.

Destiny: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Jennifer: I hope everyone enjoys Obsidian and thank you for having me on the blog.

About the Author

Jennifer lives in West Virginia. All the rumors you heard about her state aren’t true. Well,
mostly.

zombie movies, and pretending to write. She shares her home with her husband, his K‐9
partner named Diesel, her hyper Jack Russell Loki, and her pet turtle called Michelangelo. Her
dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent her time writing short
stories. Therefore explains her dismal grades in math.

  11. I love the story line in this book. It moves flawlessly. It has humor, drama, action and romance. This story was so good that I burnt dinner while trying to read at the same time. There are some elements of this story that reminded me of other books that I've read in the past. However this series is a must read. Daimon is really good, Half-Blood is fantastic, now I can't wait to read Pure.
