UK vs US: The Gathering Dark

UK vs US is back....sort of. We won't be having this has a scheduled feature because if you know we completely suck with schedules lol. So we will just do these when we find awesome covers to compare.
UK cover will always be on the left and US on the right.

The Gathering Dark (UK) / Shadow and Bone (US) by Leigh Bardugo
 The Grisha Trilogy, Book 1

The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka. Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom’s magical elite—the Grisha. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free? The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power, leader of the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfil her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to him. But what of Mal, Alina’s childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can’t she ever quite forget him?

Glorious. Epic. Irresistible. Romance

Siobhan: I have no doubt in my mind that UK cover is far better! I love it. Its dark, mysterious and is very eye catching with the blues and the forest.  I dont like anything about the US cover. I would completely walk by this in a bookstore if I seen it

Destiny: Hands down the UK cover! It is dark and inviting, all the while the gorgeous blue background just pulls you in. Then there is the girl, half looking around, almost begging you to find out what she's running from. The US cover is just so simple. I like its almost gothic feel, but really, in this case, less isn't more. My vote is UK!

What do you think? Which cover gets your vote?

  1. I agree that the artwork on the UK cover's MILES better. But I think the font on the US cover trumps the UK's font so I guess it's swings and roundabouts. I don't think the yellow on the UK cover is anywhere near as striking or standoutish as it could have been, which is a pity.

  4. I love the UK cover but there is already so many YA covers with cover models on them . . . so the US cover wins it for me! I love the simple feel of it and its gothic-likeness. Can't wait to read this book!

  7. I think the UK cover; I love the whole dark forest cover and the colours are nice also. But I do like the US cover a lot too.

  8. I can't decide between them. They are both nice. The uk ver is nice because of the blue and boarder, but i think i'll chose the us one; the title font is much better than the uk ver and it's eye catching to me.

    Great pick! :)

  9. While both titles are good, I heard Shadow & Bone first so I don't quite connect the two together yet. Again, both covers are good, but I think the US one stands out far more. If I'm browsing for a book, I'm often drawn to one if it has a different cover from those around it. I almost always prefer the UK covers to US ones, so I think I can be forgiven just this once for preferring a US one ;-)
