TV News: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand

So, news about Unearthly being turned into show is going wild. Here is the authors post about it! She is excited about the idea. However, I for one am not!! Sorry I loved the book if you have read my review you will know just how much I loved it. However, the CW OMG! Seriously. They take amazing books and serioulsy ripped the orginal story apart and the end result is just them using the characters names.

Saying that I do like The Secret Circle if I don't think about the books. The Books are one of my fave series and when I compare the books to show I notice how only the main characters names are the same. And the actual story is nothing like the book. Same with The Vampire Diaries, however I actually just don't like the show (don't shoot me).

As it says in Cynthia's post it's in Development and it doesn't actually mean it WILL be turned into a show. If they do eventually I am begging the network to stick to the book because the book is so unique and amazing it would be an amazng show!

What do you all think of the news?

  1. Have to admit the idea of this being turned into a show is exciting but I am very apprehensive too. I totally agree that those shows are good on their own but bear no similarity to the books.
Fingers crossed that they keep to the original story because it is so unique!!

  2. I haven't read Unearthly yet, so I might feel differently once I do (and I know I should! I've heard how great it is and I own a copy). But at the moment, I think this is a really good thing, because I've loved many TV shows based on book series (Gossip Girl, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, Privileged). I will say, one of the reasons The Vampire Diaries and the Secret Circle are so different from the books in every way, is that the books are 20 years old and audiences have changed. I don't think Book Elena, for example, would connect with today's teen audience.

That being said, all shows do eventually deviate far from the source material, but I like that, because then I can think of the show as being a different entity from the book entirely and judge it separately.

  3. I loved Unearthly too, but I think (as long as they stick close to the story) it could make a good tv series. Though there are some shows that have deviated so far from the story that they've only basically kept the skeleton of the story that I enjoy. Like Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game. I guess only time will tell. I'll be perfectly happy to continue just reading the books though. Can't wait for Hallowed!

  4. I always get nervous when they turn a great book series into movies or TV show. I never made it past season 1 of Vampire Diaries. I like True Blood and they've changed a ton from the books.

  7. Lol I fussed thru the whole first episode of it. My daughter finally told me to hush its not the book. Yeah but it should have been closer to it. I told her. Glad I am not the only one High Fives back.

  8. TV show adaptations make me nervous. They change waaay too much. And usually not in a good way. Like you said, the CW shows aren't too bad if you haven't read the books, otherwise, they are so frustrating!!

  9. I know how you feel. CW does tend to do that to books. However I also have serious issues with True Blood series on HBO. I have read all the Sookie Stackhouse novels and rather than names and a thin line from somewhere in each book there is nothing the same. I have to look at the show and book as two completely different things. This seems to be an issue stations create when changing books into a series. I did love Unearthly myself and I'm not sure how good of a job they could do making a show out of it. My biggest issue with it is that I am not sure that they could live up to the expectations that everyone will have.
