About The Movie
There's a right way to be single, a wrong way to be single, and then...there's Alice. And Robin. Lucy. Meg. Tom. David. New York City is full of lonely hearts seeking the right match, be it a love connection, a hook-up, or something in the middle. And somewhere between the teasing texts and one-night stands, what these unmarrieds all have in common is the need to learn how to be single in a world filled with ever-evolving definitions of love. Sleeping around in the city that never sleeps was never so much fun. -IMDB

“Let me teach you how to be single.”

I have been wanting to see this since it came out. I just never got around to it.   So I am glad this was requested for tonight’s movie Monday. How to Be Single is just fun movie about a group of people trying to figure themselves out. It isn’t a guide on how to be single but more of a film about finding yourself and what you want and accepting that sometimes it’s OK to be alone just to focus on you.

Alice (Dakota Johnson) has never been alone. She went from living with her parents, to living in a dorm to living with her boyfriend.  She never does the things she wants to do. So she decides it’s time to take a break and be single.  On her first day of her new job she meets Robin (Rebel Wilson) and Robin takes her under her wing. Showing her how to be single.

For me these are our two main characters. The story, yes does focus on all the characters but these two, especially Alice is our main character. I think Dakota gives an excellent performance as Alice. She has that whole sweet and likable thing about her  and I think Dakota managed to convey that well. Robin is a loud character. She loves being single. Jumping from one  guy to another and just loving life.  She is happy being herself. And Rebel Wilson is just perfection.  Her one liners are the best. She is bloody hilarious but I wouldn’t expect anything less from her.

I am just going to touch lightly on the other characters.  They all have individual stories that all seem to intertwine with each other. You have the single woman who has focused so much on her career that she didn’t realise just what she was missing. The bartender who sleeps with endless women who thinks he’ll never fall for anyone.  The woman who is searching for the one. And the single dad who is having trouble opening up.

I really did enjoy this film. It was such an easy film to watch with plenty of laugh out loud funny bits.  However, the film also provides a good message about being you. Finding yourself and cherishing that alone time to really look after you.  I will also say just as warning, if like me you cry at everything have a tissue near by.

If you have looking for a something that isn’t your typical rom com then this is for you.
