About The MovieWealthy CEO Michelle Darnell (Melissa McCarthy) always gets her way, until she's busted for insider trading and sent to federal prison. After leaving jail, Darnell finds herself broke, homeless and hated. Luckily, she tracks down former assistant Claire (Kristen Bell), the only person who's willing to help. While staying with Claire and her young daughter, the ex-con devises a new business model for a brownie empire. Unfortunately, some old enemies stand in the way of her return to the top
I am going to start
this by saying I love Melissa McCarthy. I think she is a fantastic comedy
actress. And while I adore her. I have to admit this is not her
best movie.
Michelle was a
wealthy business woman until she was busted for insider trading and then she is
sent to jail for 5 months. When she is released she is broke with no business.
With the help of her old assistant she tries to back on her feet. However, an
old enemy with grudge wants to destroy her new business.
While the plot to
this movie was not the best. And without spoilers it is hard to really explain.
Her character seems to have a very split personality. On one had she can be a
very funny and a smart woman but on the other she is very selfish and money hungry
who makes very bad decisions when she is angry (and drunk). Now I think
if this was any other female comedian I don’t it would have worked.
Melissa is hilarious in this. She is fouled mouthed and doesn’t give a
crap. Some of the one liners and scene are proper
laugh-out-loud-spray-coke-out-your-nose funny. Claire (Kristen Bell) is a
single mum who worked for Michelle. And helps her get back on her feet. Claire
and her daughter become close to Michelle and see her as family. I think this
bring a nice dynamic to movie and a few heartfelt and teary moments.
Then we have Peter
Dinklage character. While Renault isn’t in a lot of movie he plays a massive
part in. He is the baddie. Which was hard for me because I’m that used to
seeing him as the fabulous Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones. But he
plays the bad guy so well.
The acting from the
cast is what really saved the movie for me. As the plot just wasn’t that
good. If you looking for a funny movie then I would recommend “The Boss”.
However, don’t go into it thinking it’s going be a comedic masterpiece.
It’s a good fun movie with a funny scenes and fouled mouthed characters.
