Forbidden Mind Character Interview!

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing the novel, Forbidden Mind, by Kimberly Kinrade (you can read my review here). This book has been so popular with the readers, the lovely Kimberly has agreed to let me interview main character Sam and she has even shared pictures of Sam and Drake with us!!

This was so much fun because as all of you know, Sam can read minds. This is a
chance for us to poke around in her head a little for once instead of her reading our minds! Here is my conversation with Sam:

Destiny: First off, you have the ability to read minds. All the kids at your school have para-powers, something you compare to the X-Men...so I have to ask: who is your favorite of the X-Men and why?

Sam: Mmm... I'd have to say Wolverine, cuz he's HOT!

Destiny: When did you realize you were different from the other kids?

Sam: When I was a kid, just two or three years old, I remember answering questions or responding to things people hadn't said out loud. But I was already at Rent-A-Kid by then, so no one freaked out. If I'd been anywhere else, can you imagine the scene? They must've known what I'd become before I even showed signs of my power.

Destiny: Can you read everyone's mind? Or are some people able to block you?

Sam: No one's been able to block me, but I do have to understand your language, which isn't usually a problem since I've learned a lot of languages. Rent-A-Kid thought they had a drug that would control my abilities and prevent me from reading minds, but it didn't work. Not sure why.

Destiny: How did you feel when you learned the school wasn't all that you always believed? That your going away party wasn't preparing you to go off on a fabulous life at the college of your dreams?

Sam: I didn't believe it at first. Look, I know some of you out there think I'm stupid for not seeing it sooner. How could kids so freakishly smart be so naive? Well, you've got to understand, I was raised here since I was a baby. They never mistreated me. I had everything I ever wanted. In many ways, my life was probably better than yours. I'd get hundreds of dollars in spending money after each assignment and from a young age I could go anywhere on the estate that I wanted. Stores, movies, cafes... I was always safe and always with my friends.

I'd been to other going away parties, received care packages and post cards from the teens who had left, and I'd never heard anything that made me question all this.

So, yeah, it was a hard pill to swallow. But then I started getting sick. And they kept Drake locked up like an animal. Things started happening that I couldn't ignore. I didn't want to face the truth, but sometimes the truth doesn't give you much choice. It pretty much felt like my whole world collapsed around me.

Destiny: What does it feel like to link minds with Drake? Physically what does your body go through?

Sam: Hmm... it's like a buzzing in my head. Like that sound you hear when a fly gets too close to your ear? With most people, the voices I hear are mumbled, like talking through water. But with Drake it's more like having headphones on and hearing him inside me. His voice is so clear, so rich and soothing. It's like we aren't separate at all, but one.

Destiny: Girl talk! When you saw Drake in person for the first time, you had been "communicating" for a while and had already developed feelings for him, but did you find him attractive?

Sam: OMG if we hadn't been in the middle of a high pressure situation that was kinda life or death, we wouldn't have made it out of his room. "Attractive" doesn't begin to describe it. Blond hair and muscles to die for, with the bluest eyes I've ever seen. His smile melts me. It didn't even feel like meeting for the first time. It felt like we'd been apart too long and we could finally be together again.
Destiny: What do you hope to see happen for you and Drake now?

Sam: Well, I guess that's what the next two books will reveal! Watch for "Forbidden Fire" and "Forbidden Life" in Oct. and Nov. through Evolved Publishing. But mostly I want to just get to a place where I can settle in to a very boring life. And by boring I mean perfect. People think adventure and roller coaster rides are the highs of life. They're not. I've seen so much. Lived through so much. And while I may be young, I've learned that it's the quiet moments of peace that bring the most joy. I don't get many of those yet, but I'm hoping we make it through all this alive and can have that someday.

Destiny: Lastly, is there anything you'd like to tell us
about yourself that we don't know? Maybe a secret you've never told anyone?

Sam: I can't stand the sound of people chewing. Seriously, it drive me up the wall. This isn't so much of a secret, as my friends are well aware of this fact. But what I haven't told anyone, is Drake is the LOUDEST chewer EVER! Even mentally. It drives me nuts!

A BIG THANK YOU to Kimberly Kinrade and Sam for such a fabulous interview!!

If you haven't already purchased Forbidden Mind, it is a definite MUST READ and you can get a copy for yourself at the following places:
