Description:

What’s a girl to do when meeting The One means she’s cursed to die a horrible death?

Life hasn’t been easy on sixteen-year-old Emma Conner, so a new start in New York may be just the change she needs. But the posh Upper East Side prep school she has to attend? Not so much. Friendly faces are few and far between, except for one that she’s irresistibly drawn to—Brendan Salinger, the guy with the rock-star good looks and the richest kid in school, who might just be her very own white knight.

But even when Brendan inexplicably turns cold, Emma can’t stop staring. Ever since she laid eyes on him, strange things have been happening. Streetlamps go out wherever she walks, and Emma’s been having the oddest dreams. Visions of herself in past lives—visions that warn her to stay away from Brendan. Or else.

Review:
I had never heard of this book at all. I seen it on netgalley and it was the cover the caught my attentions. Its very striking with the black background and the image of the girl and the exploding lamp. I am so happy that my request to review was accepted as I devoured this book with just a few days (would have been sooner if life hadn't gotten in the way lol)

Spellbound follows the life of Emma, who has suffered a horrible life in the past few years. Her twin Ethan dies and a year later a mother dies. Leaving Emma in the care of her stepfather. Who is a drunk and ends up nearly killing Emma in a car accident. This leads to Emma moving in with her Aunt Christine and enrolling is Vincent Academy in New York. Soon Emma discovered the mystery behind her necklace and faces a hard choice that could prove deadly.

WOW!! yes just WOW. Review finished. Lol.

I honestly wasn't expecting much from this novel. I thought it sounded good and it was so much more. Emma is one of those characters who you just love. She is been through so much in her live and it only seems to make her stronger. She starts a fresh at her new school where she decides not to tell people about her past. I totally understand why she would do this. I think I would do the same. As soon as she starts school she ends up on Kristins hate but she stands her ground and just an overall strong willed main character. She is also very sweet and funny at times. I adored that relationship she had with Brendan. Brendan was sometimes really annoying but most of the time he was too cute for words. The secondary cast of characters in this are also wonderful . Some I loved and of course some I hated. You need a character to hate in books. Well I actually had two in this. Anthony and Kristin. Seriously those two go right on my nerves from there first appearance. Yet they were great to read. :)

Spellbound is the type of story with just draws you from the start and you will not put the book down until you are finished. Cara has manage to spin a wonderful and fascinating story that will be enjoyed by young and old. She also creates a intriguing back story to the necklace that is truely enchanting that will leave you wanting to know about the story.

As far as I know this is a stand alone novel. However, the ending is done in such a way that there could be another story maybe from another characters point of view. I really hope so as I just loved this story and really want to read more about the characters.

  5. I really enjoyed this book myself. Have to agree with the fact that Bredan was annoying at times. He was great most the time but at points I wanted to be there to tell him to knock it off lol.
