The stunning YA debut from internationally bestselling author Cecelia Ahern.Celestine North lives a perfect life. She’s a model daughter and sister, she’s well-liked by her classmates and teachers, and she’s dating the impossibly charming Art Crevan. But then Celestine encounters a situation in which she makes an instinctive decision. She breaks a rule and now faces life-changing repercussions. She could be imprisoned. She could be branded. She could be found FLAWED.In this stunning novel, bestselling author Cecelia Ahern depicts a society in which perfection is paramount and mistakes are punished. And where one young woman decides to take a stand that could cost her everything.
I have started this review about three times and I just can't
decide what I really feel about the story. On one hand I sat up until 3.30am to
finish because there was something that I can't quite put my finger on that just
kept me reading. However, on the other hand, I found the main character just so
annoying. I found idea of the story intriguing and it had great potential yet I
feel it just wasn't executed all that well.
This is my first
Cecelia Ahern novel and I have heard so many good things that about her books
that I quite high hopes for Flawed. The synopsis sounds so unique and exciting
that I really thought it was going to a fantastic dystopian read.
As I was reading it
didn't feel all that unique. In fact the whole "poster girl of the
rebellion" (remind us of anyone?) actually just annoyed the hell out of
me. Celestine? OMG I am sorry but she just pissed me off so much. She is
annoying. Now don't get me wrong. I felt for her. In her world (which makes no
sense at all btw) she is punished for making a simple decision. And her
world is turned upside down! Her situation was horrible. I felt her pain, her
anguish. But that still didn't make me like her. She is just a horrible protagonist. I wanted to punch her so badly.
Come to think about
it. I didn't really any of the characters, they were all just so irritating!
Apart from Carrick. He has some depth to him that we don't get to see much. I
wanted to see more of his story. And I can only hope that we get more of his back
story in the next book.
The world as I said
makes no sense. You are branded (yes physically branded) for making a bad moral
decision and you are known to everyone as Flawed. However you can be sent to
prison for helping someone who is Flawed. And yes, this sounds so unique and
the idea of this is actually pretty good but for me is just wasn't delivered
well. And without giving away spoilers I felt I can't really explain myself as
I am now just rambling!!
Flawed was a very
easy read it didn't really take a lot of brain power. It's kept my attention long enough to make to want to read that next one when it comes out to see what happens next. If you are a Cecelia Ahern fan or a YA dystopian fan
than please give this a try and come back and tell me what you think. From the
reviews on goodreads it seems to be very hit or miss.
I just want to talk a little about the US Cover!! I hate the UK cover. It reminds me a of a romance read and this is not a romance. It's a YA dystopian. Now the US cover is simple, beautiful, eye catching and flawless (Yes I get the irony there) The white just makes it stand out. If I was to buy the physical copy I would be buying the US edition.
